Lake County, Illinois DUI lawyer Lewis Gainor recently defended a man in a very serious criminal case involving charges of DUI and felony aggravated fleeing and eluding the police. The man was arrested by the Round Lake Park police department. When the driver saw the squad lights behind his car, he sped away, hoping to elude capture.

That decision resulted in the Lake County State's Attorney filing Class 4 felony charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding the police. Those charges carry a sentencing range of anywhere between 1 to 3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (state prison).

The DUI charge was only a Class A misdemeanor offense, but the felony was very serious. Because another motorist could have been injured during the chase, the judge would take sentencing very seriously. The driver was facing the prospect of a harsh jail sentence and even the possibility of state prison.

Lake County DUI attorney Lewis Gainor used his local knowledge and skill in the courtroom for his client on September 16, 2005. He approached the prosecution to begin plea negotiations. The result was he was able to get the DUI charge as well as the felony charge dropped. Even more, the misdemeanor plea bargain did not even require a conviction. Therefore, Lewis Gainor's client got out of the case without any convictions.
